National Scientific Center for Especially Dangerous Infections (NSCEDI) of the QazBioPharm National Holding under the Health Ministry of Kazakhstan, and Kairat Tabynov, Veterinary Sector Consultant at the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), held a working meeting.
During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for developing human capital in the field of One Health in Central Asia, as well as possible formats for institutional cooperation between NSCEDI and CAREC.
Special attention was given to the initiative to rename the NSCEDI International Training Center as the International One Health Training Center, followed by the introduction of a certified training course on the One Health approach. This course has been developed and is being implemented with methodological support from the Quadripartite Alliance comprising the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The proposed cooperation aims to strengthen intersectoral collaboration between the veterinary, human health, and environmental sectors; harmonize workforce training in line with international standards; and support the implementation of regional and global initiatives in the areas of pandemic prevention, biosafety, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety.
As a result of the meeting, preliminary agreement was reached by the leadership of NSCEDI to further develop this initiative and discuss possible steps toward its implementation.
CAREC will continue to support the development of sustainable regional mechanisms for workforce capacity building and the promotion of the practical One Health approach across Central Asian countries.
