General information

Kyrgyzstan has updated the Water Code, which provides for the transition to a new level of development in water resources management based on the principles of IWRM. 5 basin councils have been established for 5 large water basins, for which basin plans should be developed using the experience of other countries in basin planning.

Overall objective / Specific objectives:

The purpose and objectives of the project:

•       Analysis of the impact of external factors on the water resources of the Chu River basin;

•       Development of a basin plan for the Chu River

•       Organization and holding of meetings of the Basin Council;

•       Training of water management specialists to transfer experience in developing a basin plan.

Target groups: Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Members of the Chu River Basin Council, water sector specialists


•       Administrative support in organizing and holding meetings of the Basin Council

•       Development of a basin plan using the experience of European countries

•       Increasing the potential of water management specialists
