CAREC is a regional environmental organization of international character founded by the countries of Central Asia, the Commission of the European Communities and UNDP, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The highest governing body of CAREC is the Board of Governors (BoG), which includes heads of environmental ministries and agencies, as well as representatives of non-governmental public and civil society organizations (associations) of Central Asia and the donor community working in the Central Asian region.
The CAREC Board of Governors represents CAREC at the national, regional and international levels.
At the annual meetings, the CAREC Board of Governors make decisions on various issues that contribute to the formation and strategic development of the organization, and promote the strengthening of regional cooperation and sustainable development in the Central Asian region.
Currently, the CAREC Board of Governors has 11 members representing the government environment sector, civil society, business sector and international organizations. The CAREC Board of Governors’ activities are regulated by the CAREC Charter and the Regulations of the CAREC Board of Governors.
