Astana hosted the International Conference "Kazakhstan Child Friendly"

November 21-22, 2016, Astana hosted the International Conference "Kazakhstan Child Friendly", organised with the support of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the Ombudsman for Children in Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MoE RK), Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MES RK), representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan, the European Union Delegation in Kazakhstan. The conference was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 70th anniversary of UNICEF.

The aim of the event was a development of the platform for a constructive dialogue and joint efforts of international and national, governmental and non-governmental organizations on the topical issues of children's rights in accordance with international standards, the presentation of the results of the multi-indicator survey in 2015 in Kazakhstan recognized as an international mechanism for monitoring the situation of children.

The International Conference was the result of systematic work carried out in the republic in the sphere of protection of children's rights, all relevant government agencies and leading governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in the protection of rights and interests of children. The conference started with the sites in 12 thematic directions, affecting all major aspects in the field of children's rights. The main objective was to develop areas of practical measures to implement the recommendations of the 70th session of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child on the results of the 4th country report in 2015.


This conference was attended by the deputies of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, MES RK, MoE RK, Directors of NGOs and international organizations. There were more than 1,300 participants from 30 countries, including children's ombudsmen from countries near and far abroad – international experts from Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway, Ireland, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia and many others. Moreover, the emphasis was on countries, which have a successful experience in protecting the rights of children, willing to share their best practices.



CAREC took part at the special round-table discussion on “Child and Environment”, where the organisation demonstrated its mission in Central Asia with the presentation “SDG 4: integration and promotion of the principles of sustainable development (SD) in Kazakhstan.” CAREC will assist in the promotion and integration of SD principles into educational programmes, strengthen the work with the Parliament and the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan through the ESD Programme and CAREC Country Office in Kazakhstan.

The Road Map as an outcome of the International Conference has been developed with a number of the specific recommendations for the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and one of the adopted was suggested by CAREC  - an education for sustainable development.
