"We don't wait, we act!"

"Turkmenistan started it, Tajikistan and intergovernmental organisations picked up on it!"

At the COP26 Side Event "Central Asia: A Regional Approach to Working with the Green Climate Fund (GCF)", participants learned about the results of the regional component of Turkmenistan's National Preparedness Project on working with the GCF. And heard about the readiness of Tajikistan to further develop regional cooperation through the submission of a joint regional Readiness project for Central Asia.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS) and the Director of the Intergovernmental Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD) proposed to use the existing interstate programmes: the Aral Sea Basin Programme and the Regional Action Plan for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development as regional portfolios.

Representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan supported the initiative and confirmed their interest in the Regional Readiness Project preparation process.

In order to prepare quality project proposals, the OECD offered its tools and analytical products.

With gratitude for the trust, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia will continue to support the joint preparation of the Central Asia Regional Readiness Project!
