CAREC’s Executive Director met the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the Republic of Kazakhstan to discuss the implementation of the “Smart Waters” project in Afghanistan


Today, on June 1st 2016 the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia held a meeting between the CAREC’s Executive Director, Dr Iskandar Abdullayev, and the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Sayed Moeinuddin Moein.

Both parties discussed the progress in implementation of the “Smart Waters” project in Afghanistan with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). H.E. Council General ensured CAREC to provide comprehensive support in project realization and expressed his gratitude for the interest in such important problems of the Afghanistan people as water management and sustainable agriculture issues. Likewise, H.E. Consul General highlighted the importance of enhancing the capacity of water professionals and offered to pay more attention to education and capacity building of the MFA representatives in this area including Master’s degree program on Integrated Water Resources Management at Kazakh-German University within the project framework.

From its part, CAREC expressed gratitude to the Consulate General for their support in matters of registration and the successful start of the project in Afghanistan. CAREC also hopes for further long-term partnership with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in matters of cross-border cooperation and experience exchange in water resources management and environmental protection.

In general, the meeting took place in active discussions of the “Smart Waters” project performance in Afghanistan. Taking the opportunity, CAREC invited H.E. Consul General to take part in CAREC’s Anniversary Conference to be held on June 21st 2016 in Almaty.
