CAREC office introduces waste sorting

Publication date: 30 October 2018

650 kilograms of paper and cardboard was taken out from CAREC’s head office in Almaty. The action was the first step of the new initiative “Separate collection of municipal solid waste in CAREC”. “If we consider that 60 kilograms of waste paper are equal to one tree, today we saved 10 trees,” says Pakizat Saylaubekova, intern at CAREC “Environment and Health” programme.

This idea was initiated by Pakizat and received full support from the programme manager Ms Irina Bekmirzaeva. The initiative aims to organize the proper sorting system of municipal solid waste within the CAREC office and its surrounding areas. In general, it is planned to install special eco-containers on the territory of the CAREC office.

On October 24 the first container for e-waste collection has been installed on CAREC territory with the support fro PromTechnoResourcesKZ LLC. The container is meant for electronic household appliances and office equipment no larger than 50*40*36 cm (microwave, TV, kettle, hairdryer, wires, cables, telephones, computers, smartphones, chargers and batteries, etc). CAREC also plans to organize a separate collection of fluorescent lamps and large-sized equipment which doesn't fit the container.

Also, within the initiative, a company “EcoWorld” is going to install a container for plastic packaging (bottles and plastic bags). Besides, a box for a waste paper will be installed at CAREC territory. The new collection points will be open but for everyone without limit.
