Selection of participants for the 9th CALP is over!

CAREC has completed the online selection of 30 participants for the 9th Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (9th CALP).  CALP will be held from 17 to 26 September 2018 in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, in cooperation with UN Environment, and with the support of the OSCE, USAID, World Bank and European Union.

We received more than 140 applications for participation from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, and various sectors: public, non-governmental, academic sectors, as well as from regional, international organizations and projects, and private environmental businesses.

This year, CALP will be closely linked to the Central Asian International Environmental Forum (CAIEF) which was held on June 5-8 in Tashkent. The program will reflect the main focus of CAIEF 2018 - strengthening cooperation on environment and sustainable development in Central Asia.

In this regard, increasing the capacity of representatives of the public sector (nominated by state bodies of Central Asian countries and Afghanistan) was in the focus during the selection. Therefore, in 2018, most participants of the 9th CALP will be represented by ministries and agencies of environment protection, water resources management, energy and foreign affairs.

Based on the experience of the previous CALP, in addition to the list of 30 participants, CAREC formed a waiting list of 12 people, 2 from each country. In case of refusal or replacement of the participant, candidates from the waiting list will be able to take the seats of the retired participants.
