CAIEF 2018 briefing in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK. On 14 May CAREC held a press-briefing of the Central Asian International Environmental Forum 2018. The counsellor to the Embassy of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan Mr Ulugbek Abduyaminov, Deputy chair of the Board of Governors Kaliya Moldagaziyeva and CAREC Kyrgyz Country Office Director Meder Seitkasymov took part in the event.

The briefing was opened by Meder Seitkasymov, CAREC Kyrgyz Country Office Director. Mr Seitkasymov briefly introduced the upcoming regional environmental event for Central Asia – CAIEF, which will be held on June 5-8 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

The meeting was continued by Ms Kaliya Moldagaziyeva, Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors of CAREC. In her speech, she shared the findings and observations of the first CAIEF, which was held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, in 2017. Also, in her speech, Ms Moldagaziyeva stressed the relevance of the forum as a logical accelerator of regional cooperation on the environmental issues, adaptation to climate change, sustainable development and transition to green economy. It is worth noting that the participants of the first CAIEF support the "Environment for Central Asia" process, and meanwhile, all Central Asian countries will be involved in the program "One belt - One way", the question of "greening" this program is being considered at the moment.  In Ms Moldagaziyeva’s opinion, all countries should give up technologies that pollute the environment.

Further, Mr Ulugbek Abduyaminov, Counsellor of the Embassy of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan gave a speech with the presentation of the program of the upcoming forum. Mr Abduyaminov spoke about the goals, thematic areas and expected results of the forum.

At the end of the briefing, Meder Seitkasymov, CAREC Kyrgyz Country Office Director highlighted the regional cooperation platforms of CAREC facilitating the interaction of national, public, international and regional organizations. Among them are the CAREC Board of Governors, the Regional Steering Committee, the Central Asian Climate Change Conference, meetings of regional organizations, the regional meeting of representatives of the MFA's and parliaments, as well as the CAIEF itself. He also reported that CAREC suggested to the Kyrgyz Republic to host the next CAIEF.
